A front row seat to The Merry Wives of Windsor at the RSC

Published

on

Sir John Falstaff plans to hustle his way to comfortable retirement by seducing the wives of two wealthy men. But it’s the women of Windsor who pull the strings and in a world of wealth, glamour and ‘well jel’ wives, they finally tell Sir John to ‘shut up’. The only way is Windsor in this outrageous and fun-filled new version, directed by Fiona Laird.

“This evening I went with one of my loveliest friends to a fantastic event. We were invited by The Royal Shakespeare Company and Eden Hotel Collection to “an evening of cocktails, glamour, cameras and The Merry Wives of Windsor”. On the evening of the live performance streamed into cinemas across the World, we would be in the audience and before the play, we enjoyed a merry networking event just for women at The Other Place, and it was wonderful. Delicious canapes, pampering, meeting exciting and inspirational women, a talk by Fiona Laird, lovely goody bags and bright pink nail polish… what more could a girl ask for?!” ~ Mette ♡

Fabulous front row seats to the Merry Wives

After an hour and a bit at The Other Place, we strolled down to the theatre and took our (fabulous front row!) seats, sat back, ready to be entertained. I always say that I am not a critic but rather a serial ‘experience-sharer’ when I review our many experiences in Stratford-upon-Avon, the Cotswolds and beyond, and never was this more true than this evening because I am, most definitely, not a theatre critic. So as I write these words, it’s nearly midnight, I am in front of my computer, hands at the keys and I want to share my amazing experience this evening at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre with you. But if I’m not a theatre critic, how do I write about this play?

The amazing women from Windsor (or Essex?!?)

I do a bit of research, Google the play and I see what other reviews (actual critics) have written. Most loved this play like I did but many also write about how it differs considerably from Shakespeare’s own version and how it’s a bit slapstick and a bit over the top in places. Well, perhaps these (actual!) critics were not exactly the target audience to Fiona Laird’s Merry Wives of Windsor, BUT I CLEARLY AM and so, it seems, were the 300 people I shared the theatre with this evening, because for two and a half hours we laughed and laughed and had the most wonderful time in the company of these amazing women from Windsor (or was it Essex?!).

I just loved it. End of.

Fiona Laird created for us a modern day Shakespearean universe where pink flamingos and hot high heels had their place and where super strong women ruled. And I just loved it. I loved the women, they were strong and they were fabulous. I loved the French doctor, his English was so wrong it was right. I loved the hostess, she was pulling all the strings with no shame at all. I loved the Welsh parson, his comedic timing was clever and his “floss” was spot on. I loved the jealous husband, he was hot! I even loved Falstaff at the very end when he very nearly saw the error of his ways. I just loved the whole thing, end of.

Bonds Lifestyle: Shop, Cafe and Antiques Emporium

“On our way to Stratford-upon-Avon a few years back, we drove past a sign to a shop and cafe we had not visited before, one of these places where you’ve seen the sign a couple of times and decided to definitely pop in some time.. and today was that time.

Well, to say we didn’t know what to expect and that we were completely bowled would be the understatement of the century. Because Bonds Lifestyle is…. ‘Amazing’, ‘Fantastic’ and ‘An incredible shopping experience’? Yes, it’s all of those things, but they don’t actually quite describe Bonds Lifestyle well enough.

We just have to show you… click the video above and when you’ve watched it, if you think you’ve seen what it’s all about, you’d be closer but you still wouldn’t have seen even a fraction of the utter fabulousness that is Bonds Lifestyle”.

The Farm in Stratford-upon-Avon

Published

“Yesterway we visited The Farm in Stratford-upon-Avon for the first time. I had heard lots about The Farm, had seen pictures and pretty good idea of what to expect… or so I thought. The Farm more than lived up to my great expectations of a wholesome food destination set in beautiful surroundings and offering ethical and sustainable culinary produce and products. The Farm is an absolutely wonderful place for shopping, eating and getting together… we all loved it, you will too”.

An experience for everyone

Set close to the town of Stratford-Upon-Avon, in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside, the aim of The Farm was to create a memorable place that can be experienced by everyone. A unique destination that promotes wholesome, ethical and sustainable food prepared by Artisan producers from the local area, Great Britain and the world.

Food and Wellbeing Destination

The Farm is a family run business that offers a unique food and wellbeing destination that showcases local Artisan produce and promotes ethical, wholesome and sustainable food. The Farm was once a fruit farm, home to hundreds of apple, pear, plum and cherry trees, which produced for the likes of Waitrose and Mr Kipling. The Farm was popular with South Warwickshire residence for it’s ‘pick your own’ fruit and strawberries. In recent years The Farm struggled to survive and became derelict. the current owners took on the re-development in 2017, and with a shared vision and a lot of hard work, they created a truly stunning environment for all to enjoy.
